How do I report a web page in the wrong Interest or not in English?

On any of the StumbleBars, use the Dislike button drop down menu (next to the Dislike button) and select the option Report Wrong Topic to let us know what Interest the site should be in. On the Firefox StumbleBar use the Report This Stumble As option under the Tools button.

You can also report a web page by visiting the URL’s Info page, which can be found by clicking the Comment Bubble (i.e. Info button) in the StumbleBar. From the comment window click the blue View All Comments link. Once on the StumbleUpon Info Page for that particular URL, click the caution icon on the left hand of the thumbnail.  This reporting menu will take you to a page where you can suggest the correct Interest for this web page. Add optional details and press on the Send Report button. Your report will be received by our team, who will evaluate it and make the appropriate corrections.

Here are some general tips on how to choose the right Interest for a miscategorized web page:

- When adding and classifying web pages, remember to put them in the most specific Interest where most people will appreciate it. For example, if you are evaluating a blog about cars, it would probably be better under Cars than under Weblogs.

- DO NOT manipulate Interests to send a message. A site like catssuck.com for example most likely does not fit under Cats.

- If a humorous web page includes nudity or explicit language, the right topic should be Adult Humor, not Humor.

- If you are looking at a news web page without a specific focus, the correct Interest should be News(General), otherwise it’s whatever Interest the news falls under.

- The Advertising Interest is for content about advertising, not for ads themselves. A page full of banner ads should be reported as spam. For how to report these, see How do I report these web pages? above.

- The Ecommerce Interest is for web pages specifically about Ecommerce, such as a company that sells online credit card processing software. It is not for web page that make money over the web. For example, a website that sells books belongs in Books, not Ecommerce.

How does StumbleUpon figure out which Interest a web page is in?

When a web page is first added to StumbleUpon the adder is invited to include a few details about that page, including an appropriate Interest. (Find out more about the adding web pages here.)

If the adder chooses not to provide an Interest, then StumbleUpon will assign one based on various factors such as the web page title, content, and meta-data (all of which are readable from the web page’s source code).

If you encounter a web page which you feel is incorrectly categorized, please recommend an Interest change.

How do I report broken web pages or Stumbles?

If you come across a web page that is no longer available, please report it! If a web page is reported and our technology detects it is unavailable it will be taken out of circulation and not Stumbled to the rest of the community. You can report a broken Stumble two ways:

1) On any of the StumbleBars, use the Dislike button drop down menu (next to the Dislike button) and select the option Page Does Not Load to let us know the site is broken or a 404 page.

Note: If the reporting menu looks greyed out – most likely you are not on a web page that you directly Stumbled. You can only report web page that StumbleUpon has sent you to, not pages that you access outside of StumbleUpon.

2) Report a web page by visiting the URL’s Info page, which can be found by clicking the Comment Bubble (i.e. Info button) in the StumbleBar. From the comment window click the blue View All Comments link. Once on the StumbleUpon Info Page for that particular URL, click the caution icon on the left hand of the thumbnail. This reporting menu will take you to a page where you can report that Stumble as unavailable.

3) If you continue to have issues regarding miscategorized web pages please contact us directly.

A web page is showing as unavailable, but it is available and not down!

StumbleUpon is continuously running checks on web pages in our index to make sure that the content is up and we are serving you great Stumbles. If a web page goes down for a period of time, our technology may detect that and mark a site as unavailable.

I am getting a lot of Adult Stumbles I do not want!
Since we rely so heavily on users to add, categorize, and tag content there is a high risk of seeing content inappropriate for children in some categories that are definitely not intended to be pornographic but could be labelled as Adult. Interests such as Babes, Tattoos/Piercing and Sexual Health are examples of Interests that often have miscategorized content. To avoid Stumbling across inappropriate you may want to remove these Interests. If you come across bad content, you can follow the steps detailed above to help us by recategorizing the page as adult content.

If you have read through the Help Center and require additional assistance please consult our public support forums or write to us at: http://www.stumbleupon.com/feedback.
